Since its opening in 1956, Newlands Holiday Camp has seen many changes. It opened as a simple, council-run tent camp. In 1958 Jack King bought the camp and the first of a number of chalets appeared. Today, still under the same ownership, the camp, renamed King's Holiday Park, has a swimmimng pool, mini zoo, shops, club house, children's and public bars, a diverse entertainment programme, seasonal fishing in the lake, and a large number of residential as well as holiday chalets, and plenty of space for caravans. To quote from a company brochure, the camp offers visitors, "A Holiday of a Lifetime". King's Holiday Park is the island's foremost holiday site, welcoming thousands of visitors every year. The picture shows a caravan entering the camp in the early 1960s. The building on the right is now better known as Steve's Radio Cars.
