The Kynoch Hotel was built in 1900, close to the Lobster Smack
Inn. The hotel was built by the Kynoch Estate Company of Kynoch
Town (now Coryton). The building was constructed on land owned by the
company, at a cost of £3,000. Many delays in building pushed the
final costs to over £1,000 more that the original estimate. The
hotel took four years to build. The first guests were business associates
of the Kynoch Town Company. In 1907 a jetty was built near the hotel
and both were put up for sale. No purchase came forward. The Kynoch
continued to operate until the Second World War, when trrops stationed
in the area took it over. It was later used as offices by the London
and Coastal Oil Wharves, and then allowed to fall into disrepair. It
was finally demolished in the 1960s.
