Powell's Stores stood at the end of Central Avenue, and catered for the residents of Winter Gardens.
Powell's Stores stood at the end of Central Avenue, and catered for the residents of Winter Gardens. They were typical of many small stores at the time, selling just about everything imaginable. The Powell Company also had other premises: a popular restaurant at the rear of Benfleet station and a refreshment hut on the Canvey side of the bridge. This picture dates from 1925.
